Nicchia Luxury is an online perfumery from northern Italy that focuses on niche and artistic fragrance houses, the kind you rarely find on the high street. It stocks more than 150 brands, from Italian names such as Xerjoff and Orto Parisi to Parfums de Marly from France, alongside candles, reed diffusers and premium skincare. The UK version of the site shows prices in pounds.

It's a good fit for fragrance fans who already know what they like and want something less common, and for anyone hunting a special gift. Every order comes with free samples, which helps if you're exploring new houses.

The shop is easy to browse if you don't know brand names. Perfumes are grouped by fragrance family (citrus, woody, amber, floral, leather, aquatic and more), by season, by gender and by origin, with separate edits for Italian, French and Arabic perfumes, extraits de parfum, hair perfumes and body mists. Each product page states how quickly it ships, from within 24 hours to a few working days. The company behind the site, Nicchia Luxury S.r.l., is based near Brescia and also runs a boutique in the Alpine town of Ponte di Legno.

For a fresh, fruity everyday scent, Xerjoff's Erba Pura starts at £143.00 for 50 ml and appears in the shop's best-sellers. If you'd rather scent a room than yourself, Ortigia's Sicilian-inspired range is a more affordable way in, with the Zagara reed diffuser from £35.00 and the Fico d'India candle from £33.00.

Parfums de Marly's Delina, a rose and lychee floral, starts at £156.00 for 30 ml, while Orto Parisi's Megamare is £135.00 and makes a statement for anyone who likes bold, salty marine scents. On the skincare side, Susanne Kaufmann's Face Oil is £71.00 for 30 ml.

How to save more

• Test before you buy: many perfumes come in 1.2 to 2 ml sample sizes from £5.00, a cheap way to try an expensive scent on your own skin. Note that samples are excluded from discount codes.
