Northern Parrots is an online shop that sells nothing but parrot supplies. It's run by Northern Pet Company Ltd from Ramsbottom, near Bury, and it's been trading since the early 2000s. There's no shop to visit: everything is sent from its own warehouse in Lancashire.

It suits anyone who keeps a parrot, from a budgie or cockatiel to an African Grey, Amazon or macaw. You can shop by bird or by category, and the toy range is huge, with chewing, shredding and foraging toys, perches, swings and loose parts for owners who like to build their own. The customer service team has done a parrot studies course, and there's a free advice blog on the site.

What's worth a look

Six things from the Northern Parrots range, with the prices shown on the site today.

The Bird Kabob is a tower of soft cactus wood knotted on sisal rope, which suits birds that prefer to pick and shred rather than demolish, and you can untie it to add extra bits. Meanwhile the African Grey Parrot Toy Sale Pack puts six toys together for less than buying them one by one. For treats, Lafeber AviCakes are small cakes your bird can hold, pull and tear at, which makes them handy for foraging as well as a snack.

Delivery is quick for a specialist: orders before 5pm on priority delivery are sent the same day, and standard parcels go by Royal Mail, InPost or DPD in 3 to 5 working days. Cages and other large items are delivered differently, sometimes on a pallet, and can't go overseas or to the islands, so check the cage FAQs before ordering one.

Current offers

• Join the Northern Parrots newsletter ("Join our flock") for 10% off your first order.
• Standard UK delivery is free on orders over £39 (3 to 5 working days), and priority delivery is free over £69.
• The African Grey Parrot Toy Sale Pack is £36.36, down from £55.94, a saving of 35%.

How to save more

• Toys get chewed and need replacing, so it pays to order several at once with food or treats to clear the £39 free delivery threshold.
• Look for the Best Price Promise badge. If you find the identical item cheaper on another UK website within 7 days of buying, Northern Parrots refunds the difference plus 10% (marketplaces, auction sites and temporary promotions don't count).
• Returns are free on most items for 90 days (30 days for food and treats) as long as they're unused and in their packaging, so it's low-risk to try a new toy or perch.
