Peugeot Saveurs: French pepper mills, bakeware and wine tools

Peugeot Saveurs is the kitchen side of the Peugeot family business in eastern France, and it's a separate business from the car maker. The family's manufacturing goes back to 1810 and it has been making pepper mills since 1840. The UK shop sells those mills direct, along with coffee mills, ceramic bakeware, tagines and wine accessories. It suits keen home cooks, anyone replacing a worn-out grinder, and people looking for a well-made kitchen gift.

A lot of the range uses the u'Select system, which lets you set the grind from fine to coarse. Peugeot says its mills come with a lifetime guarantee, which is worth knowing when a cheaper grinder might need replacing in a few years. There are manual and electric models, plus recent collections such as the beech-wood Boreal mills and the Maestro pepper bar.

What's worth a look

• Boreal manual beech wood pepper mill in hazel, 21cm, currently £44.99. Part of the new Scandinavian-inspired Boreal collection, also in blue, green and grey.
• Maestro duo pepper bar and salt bar, currently £139.99. A set of small mills for trying different peppers side by side.
• Appolia terracotta ceramic rectangular baking dish, 32cm, currently £27, down from £38.99.
• L'Arbre à Café manual coffee mill with u'Select, 20cm, currently £119.50, down from £149.99.
• Altar continuous-turn corkscrew with foil-cutter base, basalt, currently £38, down from £47.99.

Prices can change, so check the product page before you order. If you're unsure which mill to pick, the product pages list the height, material and whether it's meant for pepper, dry salt or other spices, which matters because salt and pepper need different grinding mechanisms. The site's recipe and care blog also covers how to look after wooden mills and ceramic dishes.
