Skirting King: made-to-order skirting, architrave and wall panelling

Skirting King is an independent manufacturer in the Midlands that has been making skirting boards and mouldings since 2009. It suits anyone redecorating a room or a whole house who wants to choose a profile, height and finish rather than settle for whatever a DIY shed has in stock. Everything is made to order, and the range runs to more than 60 profiles in moisture-resistant MDF, pine and oak.

Boards come unprimed, primed or in a satin finish, in standard lengths (3m and 4.2m for skirting). Prices on the site include VAT, and there's a £60 minimum order.

Because boards are cut, primed and painted after you order, lead times matter. The FAQs put standard lead times at 3-6 working days for primed and unprimed boards and 6-8 working days for satin, and delivery is quoted separately on top. Express delivery in 2-3 working days is available to mainland UK as far north as Edinburgh. Boards are hand wrapped with cardboard corners for the journey, and deliveries are kerbside, so plan to have someone around to carry long lengths inside. The team also takes bespoke enquiries for heights not listed online, and the site has a downloadable brochure and a quick quote form if you'd rather price up a large job before ordering.

What's worth a look

• Square Edge Grooved MDF Skirting: currently from £9.58 a length. A clean, modern profile; the MDF skirting range has dozens more, from bullnose to ogee.
• Square Shaker Wall Panelling (MDF): currently from £9.90. Supplied primed in 2.4m or 3m lengths, with a choice of depths and heights for a panelled feature wall.
• Bullnose Skirting Cover: currently from £27.29. Designed to fit over existing skirting or hide pipes and cables, so you don't have to rip out the old boards.
• Square Edge Window Board MDF: currently from £5.04, with bullnose from £5.56.

Prices depend on the size and finish you pick, and can change.

Current offers

• 30% off orders over £120: the site says this is included on all orders above that amount.
• Free standard delivery on orders over £200 to mainland UK. Below that, standard delivery starts at £24 and depends on weight.

How to save more

• Plan several rooms at once. Combining skirting, architrave and window boards into one order helps you clear both the £120 discount threshold and the £200 free delivery line.
• If you're near Warwickshire, you can collect from the warehouse: place the order online, call the team and they'll refund the shipping.
• Measure carefully and check the profile height page before ordering. Items ordered in the wrong size or style are only refunded at 50%, and there's a £35 collection charge per parcel.
