Starlight Beds: factory-direct mattresses from West Yorkshire

Starlight Beds makes mattresses at its factory in Ossett, West Yorkshire, and sells them direct online. The business started in 2009 as Snuggledown Beds, making contract mattresses, and became part of The Sleep People in 2014, when it moved into rolled, boxed mattresses. It suits anyone furnishing a spare room, a first flat, a rental or a child's bedroom on a budget, as well as those after a firmer pocket spring model for everyday use.

Sizes run from shorty and small single up to king, plus European sizes, and there's a separate Starlight Babies range of cot mattresses. Delivery is free to UK addresses, usually within 3 to 7 days.

Most of the range is rolled and boxed, which makes it easier to carry upstairs and through narrow doorways. The cheaper end of the range uses open coil springs topped with memory foam, while pocket spring and pillowtop models cost more. There's also a contract range aimed at landlords, and the site lists a phone line open 9am to 5pm on weekdays if you want help choosing.
