WhyBuy: rent party kit, cleaners and tools in London instead of buying

Shopping at WhyBuy? See all current WhyBuy discount codes and deals, checked regularly.

WhyBuy is a rental service for the things most of us only use a few times a year. Instead of buying a pressure washer, a pizza oven or a karaoke machine and storing it in the loft, you book it online, choose a two-hour delivery slot and a collection slot, and WhyBuy brings it to your door and picks it up afterwards. Every item is owned or managed by WhyBuy itself and is cleaned and checked before each hire, so you're not borrowing from a stranger.

It suits Londoners hosting a party, tackling a weekend job in the garden, or heading off camping without wanting to buy all the gear. The catch is coverage: delivery is only within the M25, though there are North London click and collect points if you're just outside it.

What's worth a look

Prices below are for the first hire period shown on each listing, with a daily charge if you keep the item longer.

For a garden party, the Giant Garden Connect 4 is £35 for the first 28 hours (+£14 a day after that), against the £175 the listing says it would cost to buy. The Kärcher K4 pressure washer is £40 for 28 hours, which makes sense for a once-a-year patio clean.

The Ooni Karu pizza oven and the karaoke machine are good for one-off celebrations, and the Coleman OctaGo tent is priced for a 72-hour weekend, handy for a festival or a first try at camping. For bigger occasions, the Dinner Host Bundle for 10 brings glasses, plates, a folding table, chairs, linen and a wine cooler in one booking.

Beyond these, the catalogue covers carpet and steam cleaners, garden tools, DIY kit, roof boxes, travel cots and car seats, projectors and speakers.

Current offers

We don't have WhyBuy codes from our affiliate feed yet, but the site itself has these:

• 25% off eligible products when both delivery and collection fall on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (bundles excluded).
• Bundles for parties, hosting, gardening and moving are advertised as saving up to 40% on hiring each item separately.
• No deposit is needed on most rentals.

How to save more

• Plan midweek: if you can take delivery on a Tuesday and send it back by Thursday, the 25% discount applies automatically to eligible items.
• Combine items. There's a £35 minimum order before discounts, and one delivery charge covers both drop-off and collection, so book everything for the same weekend together.
• Book early and cancel early if plans change. Standard bookings can be cancelled for a full refund up to 96 hours ahead, and you can book up to eight weeks in advance.
