AskSia is an AI study assistant made by AskSia Inc, started in 2023 by international students who wanted a tutor that learns their actual courses. It says more than 2 million students at over 2,000 universities use it. Instead of answering from the open web, it works from the material you give it: lecture recordings, PDFs, slides, readings and YouTube videos.
From those it can transcribe and translate lectures in more than 30 languages, write summaries and cheat sheets, make flashcards and quizzes, and walk through problems step by step. It runs on the web, as iPhone and Android apps, as desktop apps and as a browser extension that plugs into Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace and Moodle, so it can read your course pages directly. There's also a community library of shared notes and free module guides, including a small but growing set for UK universities such as Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol and Southampton.
There's a free plan with no card needed; paid plans unlock unlimited uploads, full transcription and more. Paid tiers include Plus, Pro, Super and A+ plans, and the A+ plan comes with a Grade Confidence Guarantee that can refund students who meet strict usage rules over a full term. Its Digital SAT prep is free to start with a one-off $79 upgrade. Check your university's rules on AI use before relying on it for assessed work.
