About Paessler
Paessler is a German software company based in Nuremberg that makes PRTG, a tool for monitoring networks, servers, cloud services and industrial (OT) systems. The company dates its start to 1997, when Dirk Paessler was writing software as a student; he founded Paessler GmbH in 2001 and built PRTG from scratch after growing frustrated with existing tools. The company says PRTG now has more than 500,000 users, and in 2024 it took a strategic investment from Turn River Capital.
There are three main versions. PRTG Network Monitor is installed on your own hardware and suits small and medium environments. PRTG Hosted Monitor runs your PRTG instance on AWS servers in a region you choose, with updates and backups handled for you. PRTG Enterprise Monitor is aimed at organisations with more than 1,000 devices or several PRTG servers. Extensions such as an OPC UA server, SLA reporter and data exporter add extra functions, and there are free PRTG apps for iOS and Android.
PRTG is a business product. Licences are subscriptions sized by the number of sensors, from PRTG 500 (about 50 devices) upwards. Prices are shown in US dollars before VAT, and Paessler also sells through resellers around the world. You can try PRTG Network Monitor free for 30 days with no sensor limit, after which it falls back to a freeware edition with up to 100 sensors.
