TASCHEN is an independent, family-run publisher based in Cologne. Benedikt Taschen founded it on 9 February 1980, starting out with a comic-book shop, and it's still run by him and Marlene Taschen. It's known for large-format illustrated books on art, architecture, design, fashion, film, photography, pop culture and travel.
The range runs from compact series such as Basic Art (launched in 1985 with a Salvador Dalí monograph) and the 45th Edition books brought out for the firm's anniversary, through XL and XXL volumes, up to signed and numbered Collector's and Art Editions, including the huge SUMO and BABY SUMO formats. The online shop also sells gift cards, and some titles are marked adults only.
The website shows UK prices in pounds and ships to the UK, with a separate rate for heavier limited editions. TASCHEN has 11 branded shops worldwide, including one at 12 Duke of York Square in Chelsea, London, plus others in Berlin, Brussels, Cologne, Paris, Milan, Madrid, Hong Kong, Miami, Beverly Hills and Hollywood. Orders can't be changed or cancelled once placed, so it's worth checking your basket before you pay.
