Wish is an online shopping marketplace started in San Francisco in 2010 by former Google engineer Piotr (Peter) Szulczewski and Danny Zhang, under the company name ContextLogic. It began as an app for making wish lists of products and turned into a marketplace where merchants list items directly, with Wish taking a share of each sale. It grew quickly in the late 2010s and went public in 2020, and in 2024 the marketplace was sold to Qoo10, the Singapore-based shopping platform.
Wish doesn't hold stock itself. More than a million independent sellers list products, much of it shipped from China and other overseas sellers, so the range is huge and very mixed: clothing and accessories, winter gloves and belts, kitchen gadgets, camping lights, phone accessories, beauty tools, home decor and seasonal items such as Halloween and Christmas pieces. UK shoppers see prices in pounds, with many listings showing a discount against a higher reference price, and there are weekly deals and themed collections.
Because products come from many different sellers, quality and delivery times vary, and Wish has been criticised by consumer groups for poor-quality and unsafe listings, so it pays to read seller ratings and product details carefully. New customers are currently offered 15% off a first order, up to a maximum discount of £4, after logging in or signing up. Wish is available on the website and through its iOS and Android apps.
