CloudLearn is an online college based in Glasgow that has been teaching GCSEs and A-Levels by distance learning since 2011. It suits adults going back to finish qualifications they missed at school, students who want to resit and improve a grade, home-educated teenagers and anyone who needs a particular GCSE or A-Level for a job or university place. There are no entry requirements, and you study at your own pace rather than to a school timetable.

All lessons and assessments are on CloudPort, CloudLearn's online learning platform, which works on a phone, tablet or laptop. Every course comes with a dedicated tutor, and there's now an AI teaching assistant called Alex to help between tutor sessions. GCSE courses give 12 months of access and A-Levels 24 months. If you have an exam date in mind you can fast-track: CloudLearn says some students have completed a GCSE in as little as four weeks, though that takes intensive study.

What's worth a look

Here are six popular courses, with today's course fees as shown on CloudLearn's site (exam fees are added separately when you enrol).

The IGCSE Maths course is the one many adults start with, as so many jobs and courses ask for a maths pass. It follows the Edexcel International GCSE syllabus, which UK employers, colleges and universities accept as the equivalent of a GCSE, and covers about 120 hours of study. At A-Level, sciences such as A-Level Biology are around 360 hours of study and earn UCAS points.

The exam itself is the part people often worry about. CloudLearn can book your exam as a private candidate at one of its partner centres in England, including Birmingham, London, Newcastle and Taunton, and science practicals are available at selected labs. If you've already studied, you can book an exam on its own: GCSE exams start at £270.

Current offers

  • Course fees reduced: IGCSE courses are £299 (down from £410), IGCSE Science is £349 (down from £460) and A-Level courses are £399 (down from £499).
  • Multi-course discount: save 5% on two courses, 10% on three and 15% on four or more. It's applied automatically in your Study Plan.
  • Free trial: the first topic in every subject is free to try before you enrol.

How to save more

  • If you need more than one subject, enrol on them together so the multi-course discount applies. Four GCSEs at once gets you 15% off.
  • Book your exam at least six months ahead. CloudLearn charges late fees for exam entries made after the booking deadline, so leaving it late can cost you.
  • CloudLearn says it will match a competitor's fee for a like-for-like course, so it's worth comparing before you pay.

You have 14 days from receiving your login details to cancel, as long as you haven't used 25% or more of the course content.
