COUTR: designer bags, knitwear and sunglasses shipped from European boutiques

COUTR is an online designer fashion marketplace run by Couture Fashion Group Corporation in Irvine, California. It sells clothing, handbags, shoes, sunglasses and fragrance from labels such as Gucci, Prada, Fendi, Moncler, Ganni and Isabel Marant, along with more everyday names like Barbour, Asics and Saucony.

It doesn't hold its own stock. Instead, orders ship straight from partner boutiques in Europe, which COUTR says are authorised retailers, while COUTR takes the payment and handles customer service and returns. UK visitors see prices in pounds, but delivery is charged in US dollars: free on orders of $750 or more, otherwise $35. Prices don't include import duties or taxes, and the courier may ask you to pay these before delivery. It suits shoppers who are happy to wait a few days for a parcel from Europe in return for a lower price on a designer piece.

The Ganni Deep Shine East/West Mini Shoulder Bag is down from £410 to £263, and the BOSS Bottled No. 6 eau de toilette is £42, down from £87. Stock comes from each boutique's live inventory, so sizes can sell out quickly.

Because a basket can be split between several boutiques, you may get separate parcels with separate tracking numbers, and the label will show the boutique's name rather than COUTR's. That's how the business is set up rather than a mistake. COUTR says every item is brand new and authentic, and that each supplier must prove it's an authorised retailer for the brands it sells. If anything arrives wrong or damaged, you contact COUTR rather than the boutique.

How to save more

• Order carefully. Returns must be requested within 14 days through the returns portal, and a $30 label fee per item comes off your refund unless the item was wrong or faulty.
• Orders can only be cancelled within an hour, and COUTR doesn't adjust prices if they drop after you buy, so check your basket and the sale section before paying.
• If you're close to $750, adding a second item may save the $35 shipping fee, but bear in mind each item may arrive separately.
