The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary has joined Voucher Magpie. From today, you can choose it as your cause, and whenever you shop through one of our codes or deals, we'll give 50% of the commission the shop pays us to the sanctuary. You pay the same price and still get your discount.

The sanctuary, in Stadhampton near Oxford, has rescued and rehomed animals since 1967. It takes in around 750 a year, and has found homes for more than 30,000 animals since it began.

At a glance

  • Who: The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary, registered charity 254642, in Stadhampton, Oxfordshire.
  • What it does: takes in unwanted and stray dogs, cats and rabbits, and finds them new homes.
  • How to help through us: choose the sanctuary on its page, then shop as normal.
  • What it costs you: nothing. The money comes out of our commission, not your basket.

From boarding kennels to a home of its own

The sanctuary began with a few people rescuing strays and paying for them to stay in boarding kennels and catteries around the county. In 1967, a photo of founder Miss Gray feeding ponies on Port Meadow one cold Christmas caught the eye of Miss Sybil Morley. She gave £1,000, then offered a further £5,000 so the group could have a place of its own.

That money bought the South Oxfordshire Hunt's old kennels and stables in Stadhampton, which volunteers turned into kennels. In July 1970, 35 animals moved in from boarding homes across the county. Miss Gray lived to 100, and a gift she left in her will paid for new and refurbished dog kennels.

What the sanctuary does today

On any day, the sanctuary cares for 70 to 100 animals: up to 30 dogs, 60 cats and kittens and 20 rabbits, plus three goats who live there for good. It has 18 staff, and about 85% of them work directly with the animals.

Its rules are simple. It takes in any animal it has room for and can care for, and it never puts a healthy animal down. Animals that can't be rehomed stay for the rest of their lives, living as close to a pet's life as possible.

Every animal is vaccinated and neutered (kittens can be too young at first) and checked by the sanctuary's vets before it goes home. Adopters of dogs and cats can also switch on five weeks of free pet insurance.

How your shopping helps: a worked example

Most people who love animals already buy food, litter, toys and beds online. Say you spend £40 a month on pet food at a shop that pays us 4% commission on your order. That's £1.60 commission, and £0.80 of it goes to the sanctuary. Over a year, that's £9.60 from shopping you were doing anyway.

It sounds small, but it adds up quickly. If 100 supporters did the same, the sanctuary would get £960 a year, enough to make a real difference to its food and vet bills. Commission rates differ from shop to shop, and some shops pay more on certain products, so your own total may be higher or lower.

What you can do now

  1. Choose the sanctuary. Go to its page on Voucher Magpie and tap Choose. You don't need an account; we remember it on your device.
  2. Shop for your pets through us. Pets at Home has 10% off your first shop with Pets Club and up to 10% off repeat orders. Petlibro has codes off its smart feeders, fountains and litter boxes. That Dog takes 10% off when you buy three or more items.
  3. Use it for everything else too. It isn't just pet shops. Clothes, holidays, broadband and gifts all count, so the sanctuary gains whenever you shop through us.
  4. Thinking of adopting? Look at the animals on the sanctuary's website and fill in the short questionnaire on the animal's page. Visits are by appointment only, and the sanctuary doesn't take phone enquiries about adoption.
  5. Give your time. The sanctuary needs foster homes and helpers at its events and its charity shops in Carterton, Eynsham, Summertown and Witney.

Adopting from a rescue is also the surest way to avoid the fake sellers behind puppy and pet scams: you meet the animal, and it comes vaccinated and vet-checked.

Questions

Does choosing the sanctuary cost me anything?

No. The shop pays us a commission for sending it your order, and we give half of it to the sanctuary. Your price and your discount stay the same.

When does the sanctuary get the money?

A shop confirms a sale, usually 30 to 90 days after the order, once the return period has passed. We pay each cause its confirmed commission every quarter.

How much does it cost to adopt?

From 1 January 2026, the sanctuary's fees are £400 for a dog under 12 months, £300 for an older dog, £120 for a cat or kitten and £100 for a rabbit. Some animals cost more. You can reserve an animal with a £20 deposit, and none of the fees can be refunded.

Can I change my cause later?

Yes, any time, from any cause's page. Your future shopping then goes to the new cause.
