The Alchemy of Skincare is a small vegan, cruelty-free brand based in Salford, Greater Manchester. Its founder, Llewelyn, is a master aromatherapist who has been making vegan skincare since 2011, and some customers will remember the business under its earlier name, Buddha Beauty. Everything is made in Britain, and the shop covers face care, bath and body products and a surprisingly large home fragrance range.

It suits anyone who wants plant-based skincare without paying department-store prices, people who like a scented candle or diffuser to go with their routine, and shoppers looking for a gift set. There's also a section aimed at 12 to 20 year olds and a small men's range. If you're near Salford, the brand has a shop and treatment room at its premises where you can try products in person.

Most face products cost between about £15 and £40, and home fragrance starts lower, with incense from £2 and votive candles at £10. The site lets you browse by skin type, including combination, dry, oily, sensitive and mature, which helps if you're new to the brand and not sure where to start.
