Bordelle: London luxury lingerie built around satin straps and gold hardware

Bordelle is a London lingerie and bodywear label that launched at Selfridges in 2009. Founder Alexandra Popa built the brand around one idea: structured pieces framed by customised satin elastic straps and 24k gold-plated hardware. Most styles adjust to the wearer, using Bordelle's own numbered sizing. Pieces are designed in London and made at the brand's own atelier in Cluj, Romania, in small batches.

This is luxury lingerie, and the prices reflect it. It suits someone buying a special piece for themselves, a bride putting together a wedding look, or a gift-giver happy to spend on a scrunchie, stockings or a voucher. The UK site ships to the UK and most countries outside Europe. European addresses need the separate EU store.

The range has two parts. The Signatures are a permanent line in a small set of core colours. The seasonal collections, currently Ren, Neda, Zenna and Pearl for AW27, bring new lace, mesh and embroidery. There is also a bridal edit, plus hosiery, belts, garters, harnesses, scrunchies and care products.

What's worth a look

The Signature Angela Dress is the brand's best-known shape: an underwired lingerie dress with more than 130 gold-plated components and a mesh lining, now cut longer to wear out. For a smaller first purchase, the Signature Oversized Scrunchie in silk satin carries the same gold-plated branded component. Bordelle also sells a Clothes Doctor eco wash for lingerie, from £14.40 for 250ml, for hand-washing silk and mesh.

How to save more

• Join the loyalty scheme before you buy. Points are redeemed for money off as a discount code. Higher tiers add free shipping once a month, free returns and free luxury gift wrap when you ask for it.
• Get the size right first time. Returns must be requested within 14 days, and the UK prepaid return label costs £9 from your refund. The size guide helps, and so does a free showroom appointment in West London or a WhatsApp chat with the team.
• Factor in delivery. UK orders go DPD Tracked and Signed for £9, and you'll need to sign for them.
