Click & Grow is an Estonian company that has been making indoor gardens since 2009. Its gardens work a bit like a coffee pod machine: you drop pre-seeded, biodegradable plant pods into a unit with its own grow light and water tank, top up the water every few weeks, and harvest herbs, salad leaves, flowers or mini tomatoes on your kitchen worktop.

It suits people who like cooking with fresh herbs but have no garden, little windowsill space or a habit of forgetting to water things. The UK shop sells in pounds and has gardens of several sizes plus more than 75 pod varieties. Larger households, or anyone keen to grow a lot of salad, can step up to the Click & Grow 25 at £699.95 or the Smart Garden 27 at £799.95, which links three nine-pod gardens on a wooden plant stand.

What's worth a look

• The Smart Garden 3, currently £124.95. The smallest garden holds three pods and comes in white, grey, beige or sage, so it fits on most kitchen counters.
• The Smart Garden 9, currently £199.95. Nine pods at once, with automatic watering and a lamp that can be raised as plants grow. A good size for a household that cooks often.
• Small "Salad Greens" Kit, currently £135.95. A Smart Garden 3 bundled with romaine lettuce, rocket, green sorrel and basil pods, which the store says should last up to nine months.
• Basil Plant Pods 9-pack, currently £24.95. Refills are where the running costs sit, and the bigger packs work out cheaper per pod than the 3-packs at £11.95.
• Grow Anything Plant Pods 9-pack, currently £22.95. Seedless pods filled with Click & Grow's soil, so you can use your own seeds in the garden.

Prices can change, and the sale discount below is taken off in the basket rather than shown on the product pages. Some pod varieties and kits sell out from time to time, so if a favourite is missing it is worth checking back.

Current offers

• Birthday sale: 20% off everything, applied automatically in your basket.
• Free UK delivery on orders over £150.
• Gardens come with a two-year warranty, and pods that haven't sprouted after three weeks can be replaced under the store's policy.

How to save more

• Buy refills in 9 or 30-packs. A 30-pack of basil, parsley or coriander is £48.95, against £11.95 for three pods.
• If you're starting from scratch, compare the garden kits with buying a garden and pods separately, as the kits bundle extra pods with the hardware.
• Plan one larger order rather than several small ones so you clear £150 for free delivery.
