Hotel Chocolat is a British chocolatier known for high-cacao chocolate, gift boxes and its Velvetiser hot chocolate machine. It has its own shops and cafés as well as the website. It suits gift buyers, people who like darker or less sugary chocolate and anyone planning ahead for Christmas. The autumn range is live now, with advent calendars and Halloween treats. There are also gift guides by occasion and by recipient, plus vegan, truffle and liqueur selections. It also offers gift packaging in a range of sizes.

What's worth a look

• Advent Calendar For Two: currently £29.95. A shared calendar for couples. The advent calendar range also includes Milk, Dark and Caramel Chocolate Advent Calendars at £13.95 each, and The Grand Advent Calendar at £80. Prices can change.
• Up to Snow Good Advent Calendar for Children: currently £8.95. The lowest-priced calendar in the range, made for kids.
• Velvetiser – Pebble: currently £119.95, and also sold in Chalk and Pewter at the same price. The machine for making hot chocolate at home, aimed at people who drink a lot of it. There's also a Velvetiser Drinking Chocolate Advent Calendar at £40 for existing owners. At that price it gets you two-thirds of the way to the £10 off £60 offer, so it's worth pairing with another gift rather than buying it on its own.

• Everything Advent Calendar: currently £29.95. A mixed calendar for anyone who can't choose between milk, dark and caramel.
