About Hotel Chocolat
Hotel Chocolat is a British chocolate maker founded by Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris. The pair began by selling mints and then chocolates by mail order in the 1990s, and the first Hotel Chocolat shop opened in 2004. The company owns the Rabot Estate, a cacao farm in Saint Lucia where it also runs a hotel. It was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2016 and became part of Mars in January 2024. It is based in Royston, Hertfordshire.
It sells boxed chocolates, slabs, Easter eggs, seasonal gifts, hampers and drinking chocolate, along with the Velvetiser drinking chocolate machine. Its recipes put cacao first, with house milk chocolates of 40% to 65% cacao, and it also makes a milk chocolate alternative made with hazelnuts.
Hotel Chocolat sells online and through shops, cafés and outlets across the UK, some of which serve drinks and ices. Click & Collect is free on orders over £20, and in-stock items are usually ready within two hours. The free VIP.ME scheme gives members a welcome discount and café savings.
