JAZ Voyages is the Nile cruise line of JAZ Hotel Group, run from the Travco Center in Giza, and you book it on jazcruises.com. It has been sailing the Nile since 1986 and now has 24 vessels, all working the stretch between Luxor and Aswan. Most itineraries are three, four or seven nights, calling at Esna, Edfu and Kom Ombo, with time for Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple and Philae.

It suits anyone planning a first trip to Egypt's ancient sites, as well as families: the boats are childproofed, and each cabin takes up to two children under 12. You can switch the site to pounds sterling, and prices are shown before taxes and fees. According to JAZ's own FAQ, September to mid-April is the most comfortable time to sail.

What's worth a look

Here are six boats from across the fleet, from classic to luxury to traditional sail.

A good starting point is JAZ Crown Prince, a classic ship with spacious cabins, Nile views and evening entertainment. Today the homepage shows a seven-night Luxor-Aswan-Luxor Super Saver sailing in a Standard Cabin from £1,049, excluding taxes and fees, with departures every Monday. If you'd rather spend more on comfort, JAZ Elite Viceroy is an all-suite boat with spa services, curated excursions and a rooftop deck. For a slower, more intimate trip, the Farouz El Nil Dahabiyas are traditional wooden-style sailing boats with a gentle pace.

Current offers
