Low Cost Glasses is a UK online shop for prescription glasses that are cheap to begin with. It says its head office and lab are in Merseyside, and the company behind it, Low Cost Glasses Ltd, is registered in Wolverhampton. Every frame comes with standard single-vision lenses, a case and a cloth, so the price on the product page is close to what most people with a simple prescription will pay.

It suits anyone who wants a spare pair, a pair for the car or the desk, or prescription sunglasses without paying high-street prices. Varifocal wearers are covered too: the site sells complete varifocal glasses, frame and standard varifocal lenses together, from £49. There's a virtual try-on tool, guides to reading your prescription, and an online tool for measuring your pupillary distance (PD). If you don't have your prescription to hand, you can order now and send it later.

What's worth a look

These six frames were all marked down in the sale when we checked, with standard lenses included in the price.

The Kasper is a medium square frame in clear and blue, down to £21.95, and like many frames here it's listed as suitable for varifocals. If you'd rather go cheaper, the tortoiseshell Cindy cat-eye is £12.95 and has a spring hinge. Each product page lists the lens width, bridge width and arm length (the Kasper is 50-21-148, for example), so compare those numbers with a pair that already fits you before you order.

Lens upgrades such as thinner high-index lenses, tints, photochromic and polarised lenses are added at checkout and cost extra. Most frames in the prescription sunglasses section were £23.95 when we checked, with basic single-vision lenses included.

Current offers

We don't have any affiliate offers for Low Cost Glasses yet, but the site itself has a few worth knowing about:

  • A Mega Sale with up to 50% off frames, plus an extra 15% off with the code LOWCOST shown in the site banner.
  • Free UK delivery on orders over £40. Below that, standard delivery is £5.95.
  • Complete varifocal glasses from £49, including the frame and standard varifocal lenses.

How to save more

  • Watch the £40 free delivery threshold. If a discount code or loyalty points take your order below £40, the £5.95 delivery charge comes back, so it can pay to add a second pair.
  • Only add the lens extras you need. The standard 1.5 lenses are included, and upgrades add both cost and production time.
  • Get the order right first time. Because glasses are made to your prescription, the refund policy doesn't cover fit or change of mind, refunds on non-faulty returns deduct lens and delivery costs, and orders can only be cancelled within 30 minutes. Clearance frames are final sale for change of mind.
