Mexico Grand Hotels is a family-owned group of resorts in Cabo San Lucas, at the tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. Its collection splits into two very different bases: the hillside Hacienda Encantada area along the tourist corridor, with sea views over the Sea of Cortez and Land's End, and Marina Fiesta Resort & Spa on the marina in downtown Cabo, close to the bars, restaurants and boats.

It suits couples, honeymooners and families planning a long-haul trip to Los Cabos who want suites rather than standard rooms. You book direct on the group's site, where the booking engine shows rates in US dollars or Mexican pesos, so UK travellers will pay in a foreign currency and arrange flights separately unless they take the flight and hotel bundle.

What's worth a look

These six picks cover the main resorts and the extras you can add to a stay.

The Dine Out All Inclusive Gourmet Plan is the group's twist on all-inclusive: à la carte meals and drinks at the resort restaurants, plus selected restaurants in the Marina Golden Zone downtown, with a shuttle to sister resort Marina Fiesta every two hours. Lobster and premium steaks cost extra. For couples, the honeymoon packages add touches such as couples' massages, breakfast in bed and late check-out.

The wider collection includes El Encanto All Inclusive Resort, the quieter Vista Encantada Spa Resort, the villas at The Residences at Hacienda Encantada (handy for families and groups, with the Cabo del Sol golf course in view) and Kadun Hotel Boutique, inspired by Baja design. For something different, the resorts run a temazcal, a traditional Mesoamerican steam ceremony using hot volcanic stones and herbs. The resorts are family friendly, with an activity programme that includes cooking and cocktail classes, pool volleyball and Spanish lessons.

How to save more
