Risk Assessment Products is a Barnsley-based online shop for the safety kit that workplaces are expected to have: defibrillators, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, lockers and clinical equipment. Christopher Maltby founded it in 2006. Most of its customers are schools, councils, care providers, offices and sports clubs, but anyone can buy, so it's just as useful for a village hall putting in its first AED or a family wanting a proper first aid kit at home.

Defibrillators are what it knows best. The defibrillator range covers ZOLL, Philips, HeartSine, Defibtech, Mindray and several other makers, with pads, batteries, cabinets and signs alongside. Every product page shows two prices, one with VAT and one without, which helps if your organisation reclaims VAT. If you're buying for yourself, the VAT-inclusive figure is the one to compare.

What's worth a look

Here are six items from across the range, from a full-size AED down to a sports first aid kit.

The ZOLL AED 3 is £1,702.80 including VAT. It gives real-time CPR feedback, its pads and battery each last up to five years, and the unit comes with an eight-year warranty. If you're on a tighter budget, the HeartHero Elliot is on sale at £712.74, down from £765.59. For everyday first aid, the BS 8599-1 medium workplace kit in a contemporary box costs £48.23.

It's not all medical kit. There are steel lockers, PPE lockers, cupboards and grit bins too. The two-door 1800mm locker is reduced to £238.80, but lockers take 8 to 12 working days to arrive, so allow for that.

The first aid side is just as broad. There are BS 8599-1 and HSE workplace kits in small, medium and large sizes, refills to top them up, and kits for vehicles, catering, childcare and sport. The fire safety range covers water, powder and CO2 extinguishers from Firechief, plus fire blankets and signs.
