Sewing Online is a Nottingham-based web shop for people who sew, quilt and craft. It covers the larger pieces that are hard to find on the high street, such as sewing machine tables and cabinets, folding cutting tables, sewing chairs, trolley bags and adjustable dressmakers dummies. It also sells the everyday bits: sewing boxes, craft storage, lamps, scissors, thread, ribbon, trims, fabric and kits for cross stitch, knitting and crochet.

The business is run by General Merchandise International Ltd from a warehouse in Netherfield, so it's online only. It suits anyone setting up a sewing room or replacing a bulky item, and many products show a recommended retail price next to the selling price so you can see the gap.

Orders usually take 3-5 working days to process and dispatch. The office answers phone calls and emails from 8.30am to 5pm on weekdays. Sewing Online also delivers abroad: EU orders cost £14.99 or 15% of the order total to send, and buyers outside the UK pay any import duties or taxes when the parcel arrives. Most items can be returned within 30 days, though you pay the return postage unless the item is faulty.

How to save more

• If your basket is just under £40, add some thread, needles or ribbon to get free delivery. It can cost little more than the £3.99 you'd otherwise pay.
• Only pay for 24-hour delivery if you need it. It costs £9.99, has to be ordered by phone before 2pm, and standard delivery takes 3-5 working days.
• Fabric and haberdashery cut to length can't be returned, so double-check measurements before ordering by the metre.
