SwitchBot: smart home gadgets that work with what you already have

SwitchBot makes smart home devices that fit onto what you already own instead of asking you to rewire anything. Its first well-known gadget was the Bot, a small motor that presses a light switch or a coffee machine button for you. The range now covers curtain and blind motors, smart locks, hubs, sensors, lighting and robot vacuums.

It's a good fit for renters and anyone who wants to try home automation without an electrician. The UK store prices everything in pounds and ships from a UK warehouse, usually within one to five working days. Many devices link to Alexa, Google Home and Matter-compatible systems through a SwitchBot hub.

Everything is controlled through the free SwitchBot app, where you can set schedules, create scenes (for example, curtains open and the lights come on at 7am) and check sensor readings such as temperature and humidity. Some devices work over Bluetooth on their own, while others need a hub for remote control when you are away from home, so it's worth checking each product page to see whether a hub is required before you build a basket.

What's worth a look

• The SwitchBot Bot Rechargeable, currently £33.99, is the simplest way in: it presses a physical button on a schedule or from your phone.
• The SwitchBot Curtain 3, currently £99.99, clips onto an existing curtain rail or rod and opens or closes the curtains on a timer or at sunrise.
• The SwitchBot Lock Ultra, currently £159.99, fits over the thumb-turn on the inside of a compatible door, so you can lock and unlock it from the app.
• The Hub Mini (Matter enabled), currently £69.99, connects SwitchBot devices to voice assistants and can control infrared appliances such as TVs and air conditioners.
• The K11+ Pro robot vacuum, currently £399.99, is a compact model aimed at smaller homes.

Prices can change, so check the product page before you buy. Undamaged products can be returned within 30 days of shipping for a refund, which gives you time to see whether a device suits your home.
