The Storage Bay: shelving and racking for garages, sheds and home offices

The Storage Bay is an online shop for shelving and storage, run by a company registered in England since 2009. Much of its catalogue is aimed at warehouses, schools and offices, but it also has a dedicated garage and shed section and a smaller range of domestic shelving for kitchens, pantries and home offices. If your garage has become a dumping ground, this is the kind of place that sells the sturdy kit to sort it out.

Prices are shown both with and without VAT. If you are buying for your home, the figure that matters is the higher, VAT-inclusive one, which is what we quote below.

What's worth a look

• Clicka 175 Shelving: a boltless steel unit with shelves rated to 175kg each, designed to go together in minutes without tools. It is currently from £103.40.
• Heavy Rivet Racking: a step up for heavy tools, paint tins and boxes, with shelves taking up to 600kg each. Currently from £160.51.
• Eclipse Chrome Wire Shelving starter bay: adjustable four-shelf chrome units that look tidy enough for a kitchen or utility room. Currently from £103.68.
• Rivet Workbench with half undershelf: a solid bench for DIY and hobby projects, currently from £215.14.
• Rhino Tuff coloured plastic bins: small pick bins for screws, fixings and craft supplies, currently from £1.39 each.

Current offers

• Shipping is free on orders over £300. The fine print says this applies to the UK mainland, excluding Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands, and that delivery is usually kerbside by courier.
• Below £300, a minimum carriage charge of £20 plus VAT applies.

We didn't spot any discount codes or sales on the site when we looked.

How to save more

• Use extension bays. If you need a long run of shelving, buy one starter bay and add extension bays, which share the uprights of the unit next to them. For example, the Eclipse chrome extension bay is currently from £95.39 against £103.68 for a starter.
• Group your order. Because carriage is free over £300, it can be cheaper to buy your shelving, bins and workbench in one go rather than in separate orders.
• Check load ratings before you buy. The lighter Clicka 175 may be all a home garage needs, and it costs less than heavy-duty racking.

Items usually show around five days for delivery on the product page. As deliveries go to the kerb, make sure you have someone to help carry longer racking components inside. For bigger projects, the site also offers a project installations service that can put you in touch with a local specialist for a survey or quote.
