Truthbrush is a small Devon company that makes bamboo toothbrushes and other plastic-light oral care. It was started by two friends, a fashion buyer and an NHS doctor, after a throwaway hotel toothbrush in 2017 got them thinking about how many brushes end up in landfill. The business is B Corp certified and run from Ashburton by an all-woman team.

It suits anyone trying to cut down on bathroom plastic without giving up on looks: the brushes come in a range of painted colours, from Storm Grey to Petal Pink, and there are smaller versions for children. Handles are bamboo and the bristles are made from castor oil. The brand is open that these still aren't plastic-free, and explains why on its FAQ page. The brushes are made in China, where the Moso bamboo grows, and the company says it offsets the carbon from shipping them to the UK and then on to you. Each handle is finished with a plant-based oil for a smooth, water-resistant feel.
