Waitrose: 20% off No.1, Essential basics and the Delivery Pass explained

Shopping at Waitrose? See all current Waitrose discount codes and deals, checked regularly.

Waitrose started in 1904 as a small grocery in Acton, west London, and has been part of the John Lewis Partnership since 1937, so it's owned by the people who work there. It has a reputation as the premium supermarket, but its ranges run from Essential Waitrose basics to No.1 at the top end, with Duchy Organic in between. It suits shoppers who care about where their food comes from (all its fresh milk is free range, for example), cooks who want good ingredients, and anyone who mixes a few treats into a sensible weekly shop.

You can shop online for delivery or Click & Collect with a £40 minimum spend, and some areas also get rapid delivery. My Waitrose is free to join and gives members savings and treats.

What's worth a look

Here are six things from the current range, several of them reduced.

The No.1 range is the standout at the moment, with 20% off selected lines. No.1 Longstock Gold Free Range Eggs are £2.28 instead of £2.85, a pair of No.1 Butter Croissants is £2 instead of £2.50, and the No.1 British Free Range Whole Chicken is £11.69 instead of £14.61. On the everyday side, Essential Fairtrade Bananas have a new lower price of 95p, down from £1.

Current offers

See the meal deals page for which dishes qualify this week.

How to save more

• Work out whether the Delivery Pass pays. Waitrose's own estimate is up to £123 a year saved on the 12-month pass, based on one £4 delivery every week.
• Buy your Delivery Pass before 1 September if you want early access to Christmas slots. It's too late for this year, but worth remembering for next.
• Mix ranges. Use Essential Waitrose for staples and save No.1 for the items where you'll notice the difference, especially while selected No.1 lines are 20% off.
