About Chef Akila
Chef Akila sells frozen Indian ready meals made from family recipes and delivered to your door. The menu runs to around 39 regional dishes, from Delhi Butter Chicken and Grandma's Lamb Curry to Kerala-style beef, Kannur Prawn Curry, biryanis, dals and vegetable sides, with vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free options marked up in their own collections. Most curries come in a 550g pack that serves two, and several are also sold as 2.2kg party packs that serve ten.
The business is named after Chef Akila, who was born in a South Indian village in 1945 and now lives in Yorkshire with her son's family. The company says it has been cooking for customers since 2016. Everything is hand-cooked in small batches in its own kitchen without base gravies or ready-made sauces, then blast-frozen within minutes and packed in insulated boxes with dry ice.
Delivery is by DPD or DHL courier to most of mainland UK, and you pick your delivery day at checkout. Orders over £59 travel free, and smaller orders pay £6.95. The company can't deliver to Northern Ireland, the Highlands or the UK islands. Meals arrive frozen with at least six months before their best-before date, so a bigger order can stock the freezer for weeks.
