How we verify codesHow giving worksHow we make money
Closs & Hamblin was founded in London on 1 April 1933 by Harold Closs and Cyril Hamblin, originally selling silks, dress fabrics and paper patterns. For most of its life it traded as C&H, moving its shops to the market towns of South East England from the 1970s and adding furnishing fabrics, haberdashery and a curtain-making service along the way. The Hamblin family still runs it, now into the fourth generation, and the name was changed to Closs & Hamblin in 2016.
Since 2021 the shops have been converted into showrooms that focus on bespoke curtains, blinds and shutters, so dress fabrics, yarn and craft supplies are no longer sold. There are showrooms in Brighton, Canterbury, Chichester, Guildford, Horsham, Tunbridge Wells and Winchester, plus a concession in Windsor, and the company offers free in-home consultations with measuring and fitting. It is also an official Luxaflex retailer for blinds, shutters and awnings.
The website, launched in 2008, carries a much wider range: ready-made curtains, curtain poles and tracks, designer fabric and wallpaper from names such as Laura Ashley, Morris & Co, Sanderson, Harlequin and Zoffany, plus bedding, cushions, throws, rugs, table lamps and wall art. There is also an online made-to-measure service for curtains and Roman blinds where you pick a fabric and choose the heading, lining and size yourself.
