italki is an online language-learning marketplace that matches learners with independent teachers for one-to-one video lessons. It started at the end of 2006 as a social network for language exchange, added paid lessons in 2008, and is now run by italki HK Limited in Hong Kong. The company says it lists more than 30,000 teachers from 190 countries, covering over 150 languages, from English, Spanish and Japanese to Hindi and Arabic.
There's no subscription. You browse teacher profiles, compare prices, reviews and teaching styles, and pay per lesson. Teachers set their own rates, and lessons can be anything from 30 to 90 minutes. Professional teachers hold teaching qualifications, while community tutors focus on conversation practice. Many teachers offer cheaper trial lessons, so you can try a few before committing. There are also live group classes for small groups, and an optional $30 italki Language Test.
Italki prices and credits are in US dollars by default, although the site has a currency selector and accepts UK cards. Free extras include podcasts, quizzes, a community feed where you can post writing for correction, and seasonal challenges such as the 2026 Language Challenge, which runs until 15 October.

Usually not: most stores, including italki, accept one discount code per order. Automatic deals and sale prices can often be combined with a code, so check the terms on each offer.
Yes. Look for the New customers badge on the offers above.
It depends on the code. Many discount codes exclude items that are already reduced, so open Terms on the code before you use it.
We don't have an app-only italki code right now. When one appears it shows here with an App only badge. italki has iOS and Android apps for booking and taking lessons.
Most codes exclude gift cards and items already reduced, and some need a minimum spend or are for new customers only. Open Terms on the code, or tap "Didn't work?" and we'll recheck it.
Codes marked Verified have passed our check, with the date and time shown on the code. We use AI to validate that codes actually work. Codes without the badge come from italki itself or its affiliate programme but haven't been verified yet.
Yes. When you buy from italki through our links, italki pays us a commission, and we give 50% of it to the charity you choose. We donate once italki confirms the sale, usually 30 to 90 days later, and pay charities once a year.
No. You pay italki's normal price, less any discount. Our commission is paid by italki or its affiliate network, not by you.
Tap Get code and we copy it for you. Add your items to the basket on the italki website, then paste the code into the discount or promo code box at checkout.
