NextUp is a stand-up comedy streaming service started in 2016 by four comedy fans and friends, Sarah, Dan, Kenny and Stuart, who wanted to watch the live shows they kept missing. It is run from an office in Holborn, London, by a team of around 15, and records, livestreams and distributes live comedy from across the UK. It says it shares revenue 50/50 with acts and venues.
Members get weekly livestreams from clubs including Angel Comedy, the Glee Club and Monkey Barrel, plus streams from the Edinburgh Fringe, with most livestreams available to catch up on for seven days. There's also an on-demand library of more than 200 specials and live sets, with Critics' Choice, Just Released and Most Watched collections, a live chat during streams and member message boards. Comedians featured on the site include Ed Byrne, Milton Jones, Lucy Porter, Zoe Lyons and Alasdair Beckett-King.
Membership costs £20 a month or £80 a year, with no adverts, and you can cancel any time from your account; your access runs to the end of the billing period. NextUp says new members can get a full refund within 14 days. You can watch in a browser or on its apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, Fire TV and Apple TV, and cast with Chromecast or AirPlay. Gift cards are available too.
