About OnlineSim
OnlineSim is an online service for receiving text messages on virtual phone numbers. Instead of giving out your own mobile number when you register with a website or app, you rent a number through OnlineSim and read the incoming SMS codes in your account. It says it has been running since 2013, works in ten languages and has served more than 12 million customers. The current terms name the operator as Online Connection Tech Pte. Ltd., a company registered in Singapore, and the same platform also runs under the onlinesim.io address.
There are two main ways to use it. A short rental gives you a number for between ten minutes and an hour, depending on the country, to receive codes from one chosen service. Longer rentals keep a number for days or weeks. OnlineSim says numbers come from over 90 countries, each purchased number goes to one customer only, and if a code doesn't arrive you can cancel the number and the money goes back to your balance. It also offers a small set of free public numbers to try, an API for developers and mobile proxies.
You pay by topping up an account balance. Refunds aren't automatic: the refund policy says each request is reviewed case by case and limited to the balance left in your account. The service itself warns that phone operators can reissue numbers to new customers a few months after they go inactive, so it advises against linking payment methods or important accounts to a rented number.
