About Zilch
Zilch is a small food brand from Edinburgh that sells one thing: a monk fruit sweetener powder. It is not connected to the buy-now-pay-later company of the same name. The powder is made from a water infusion of monk fruit, dried with soluble tapioca fibre, and contains no erythritol, allulose or artificial sweeteners.
The founders met at a co-working space in Edinburgh while trying to cut down on sugar, and the business is still run from the city. The monk fruit is grown in the Guilin area of China. Zilch Foods Ltd was registered in Scotland in 2025.
The sweetener comes in 80g and 160g pouches. It is roughly three times sweeter than sugar, so the brand suggests using about a third of the amount you normally would. You can buy it once or set up a subscription that saves 10% and can be paused or skipped. Delivery within the UK is free, and the site has recipe ideas for drinks, porridge and baking.
