Alexandra Sports is an independent running shop that has been fitting running shoes since 1981. It started in Portsmouth and now has two stores, one in Portsmouth and one in Christchurch, Dorset, as well as a website that delivers across the UK and abroad. It suits anyone who wants specialist advice on running shoes, from first-time joggers to people training for a marathon, and walkers looking for proper support.

The online shop covers road, trail, racing, track and walking shoes from Brooks, Hoka, Mizuno, On, Saucony, Salomon, Altra and Topo, plus running clothing, sports bras, socks, GPS watches, headphones, insoles, recovery sandals and gels, bars and drinks. In store the team runs gait analysis with 3D foot scanning, fits custom and 3D-printed insoles and sports bras, and repairs shoes.

Gait analysis is the reason many people visit. It's a 30-minute appointment in either store: staff film you on a treadmill, scan your feet in 3D and look at how your foot rolls as it lands, then bring out shoes that suit the way you move. You can book online and pick a slot, or walk in, though booked appointments take priority on busy Saturdays. Both shops are open every day, including Sundays and bank holidays.

The sale is full of last season's colours of well-known shoes. The men's Brooks Glycerin Max 2, a heavily cushioned road shoe, is £110 instead of £180, and the women's Brooks Ghost 17 is £89.99 instead of £135. Among the new arrivals, the Hoka Arahi 9 is £140, and the Ronhill Tech Reflect Jacket at £80 is worth a look as the evenings get darker.
