Sally Beauty is where a lot of hairdressers, barbers and nail techs buy their supplies, but you don't need to work in a salon to shop there. It's the UK arm of the American company Sally Beauty Holdings, which opened its first shop in New Orleans in 1964. Today it has more than 200 stores across the UK and Ireland, plus a big online shop. It suits anyone who colours their own hair, does gel nails at home or wants salon brands without paying salon prices, as well as students and professionals stocking up.

The range runs from professional hair colour, bleach and toners to clippers, dryers, straighteners, gel polish systems, lashes, waxing, tanning and salon furniture. You'll find ghd, Olaplex, Wella Professionals, L'Oréal Professionnel, OPI, Dyson, Osmo and UNITE alongside Sally's own labels, such as Proxelli electricals and XP Professional colour.

What's worth a look

For hair tools, the ghd Original Hair Straightener is a long-time favourite, while the Proxelli Goya T-Shape Hairdryer is from Sally's own professional brand. If you're buying a gift, the Osmo and L'Oréal Professionnel sets are ready-boxed and easy to post.

Barbers and anyone cutting hair at home will find clippers, trimmers and scissors from Wahl and others, and trainee hairdressers can practise on mannequin heads such as the S-PRO Chloe range. On the nails side there are gel polish kits, UV and LED lamps, and acrylic systems. If you're not sure what to buy, Sally says its store and customer service teams are trained beauty experts, so it's worth asking them about colour, developers or tools.
