Cohorted is a UK beauty box company that has been curating boxes since 2016. Instead of single products, it sells boxed edits of skincare, makeup, haircare and fragrance, and it focuses on full-size products from prestige and newer brands rather than tiny samples. It suits anyone who likes trying new brands, wants a monthly treat landing on the doormat, or needs a beauty gift that arrives looking ready to hand over.

You can buy in three ways. There's a monthly subscription, there are one-off mystery boxes where the contents are a surprise, and there are limited edition boxes built around one brand. Each limited edition page lists exactly what's inside, along with the retail price of each item.

What's worth a look

Here are six boxes from the current range, from a low-cost mystery box to brand collaborations:

The Pat McGrath Beauty Box is the headline collaboration at the moment. At £59.99 it includes a Divine Blush Legendary Glow Colour Balm, a Divine Blush Plus Bronze Plus Glow Trio, a Lust Gloss and a Skin Fetish Divine Blush, and the product page lists each item's individual price. If haircare is more your thing, the Christophe Robin box is aimed at curly hair, with five products from the Luscious Curl range, including a cleansing balm, curl cream and curl butter.

The subscription costs £39.99 a month. Boxes arrive between the 1st and 15th of the month, and the contents change each time. It renews automatically. You can cancel from your account, but you can't skip or pause a month, so cancel before the renewal date if you want a break.

UK orders are sent from a third-party warehouse and usually arrive in 1 to 5 working days with tracked delivery. Cohorted ships abroad as well, but perfumes and aerosols can't go to international addresses, so boxes with fragrance are UK only in practice. There are also gift cards from £25 if you'd rather let someone choose their own box.

How to save more

• Use WELCOME25 on a higher-priced box, such as a limited edition, rather than the £18.99 mystery box, as a percentage off saves more there.
• Free shipping starts at £50. Pairing a box with a small letterbox gift can get you over the line for less than the delivery cost.
• Read the returns rules before you buy. Opened beauty products, sale items and gift cards can't be returned, so the mystery boxes are best for people who enjoy a surprise.
