Farmfetch is an online marketplace for independent British food and drink. Rather than holding its own stock, it lists products from UK farms, butchers, delis and small makers, and each producer ships its part of your order straight to you. It suits people who want to buy meat, cheese or pantry goods from named British producers, or who are looking for a food gift with a story behind it.

The range covers grass-fed beef, heritage-breed pork, free-range chicken, Kent salt marsh lamb, venison, charcuterie, smoked fish and Exmoor caviar, British cheese, chutneys, chocolate, English wine, craft beer and spirits. There are also hampers, gift cards and Netherton Foundry spun-iron cookware, and Christmas turkey, goose and roasting joints are now open for pre-order.

Each product page names the producer, and you can browse by producer or by region, from Devon and Cornwall to the Peak District, Wales and Scotland. Producers are mostly small, family-run businesses, and Farmfetch says it only works with UK-based ones. Delivery partners include Royal Mail, DHL, DPD and APC, and tracking comes directly from them. Some butchers and fishmongers offer a 24-hour courier for meat and fish. If you're sending food as a present, there's a gift note option in the basket and Farmfetch gift cards are available too.

How to save more

• Delivery is charged per producer, and many offer free shipping above a set spend. The basket shows each threshold, so buy several items from one producer rather than one item from many.
• For Christmas, pick the "Pre-order" delivery option on turkey, goose and joints so they arrive just before the big day instead of straight away.
• Most items are perishable and can't be returned unless they arrive spoiled or not as described, so check weights and serving sizes before you order.
