Housekeep is a London-founded service that matches you with a vetted local cleaner and then takes care of the admin. You enter your postcode, get a price, pick a regular slot or a one-off visit, and your card is charged on the evening of each clean, never in advance. It started in 2013, was founded by Avin Rabheru, and now covers London plus areas including Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh, the West Midlands and much of the South East.

It suits busy households that want the same cleaner every week or fortnight without paying cash, chasing invoices or signing a contract. Cleaners have at least six months' professional experience and go through background checks, including right-to-work and criminal record checks. You manage everything in the app or online account: skip a week, add extra tasks, leave notes, or hand your regular cleaner a spare key so you don't have to be in. If the cleaner's away, you can book cover in the app, and if they cancel, you aren't charged.

Regular cleaning is the core service. The site advertises cleans from £18.50 an hour, and the standard visit covers kitchens, bathrooms, living areas and bedrooms, including wiping surfaces, scrubbing the hob and shower, and vacuuming and mopping floors. For moving out, the end of tenancy clean uses an agency-approved checklist and has no time limit: the team stays until the job's done. You get an instant quote based on the size of your home.

How to save more

• Make changes before 12:00 the day before a clean. Until then, skipping or rescheduling is free. After that, a short-notice fee applies, and after 18:00 you pay the full clean.
• Add extras like the inside of the oven or fridge, laundry or ironing to a regular clean in your account. For a one-off refresh, that can work out cheaper than booking a separate specialist service.
• Have a vacuum, mop and bucket ready. Cleaners travel by public transport and don't bring heavy kit, and a flat-battery cordless vacuum wastes paid time.
