JS Hotels is a family-run hotel group that has been on Mallorca since 1956, when Juan Socias and Catalina Fornes bought the Hotel Miramar in Puerto de Alcudia. Today it has 13 places to stay around the island: six four-star hotels, six three-star hotels and a hostel. Most are on or near the beach in the north and east, at Can Picafort, Playa de Muro, Puerto de Alcudia and Portocolom, and there are a couple near Palma.

It suits a wide range of trips. Families have hotels with kids' facilities and pools, couples have several adults-only options, and cyclists will find hotels with their own cycling centres, which makes sense on an island so popular for road riding. Prices on the official site are in euros and include VAT, and the Balearic tourist tax is paid at the hotel when you arrive.

What's worth a look

Here are six JS hotels that between them cover city breaks, beach holidays and quieter adults-only stays.

JS Cape Colom stands out for its setting: it's an adults-only hotel on the cliffs at Portocolom, with two outdoor pools in around 3,000 square metres of gardens and terraces, direct access to the sea and an optional all-inclusive plan. For a city break, JS Palma Plaza is on Plaza Madrid in central Palma, with soundproofed rooms, a rooftop terrace and pool, a 24-hour gym and a spa. Families might start with JS Portocolom Suites, where every suite has a separate living area and a balcony, and there's a playground, splash area and multisports court.

The main deal right now is the long stay offer, worth up to 10% off. Stays of at least 4 nights get 5% off and stays of at least 8 nights get 10% off. • Stack the discounts. Join Club JS Friends first, then book a stay long enough for the long stay offer, and pick the Non-Refundable Rate if your plans are fixed.
• Book direct and keep an eye out for 24 hours afterwards. JS Hotels' best price guarantee refunds the difference at the end of your stay if you find the same hotel, dates, room and conditions cheaper on another website within 24 hours of booking.
• Think about the length of your stay. A week of seven nights misses the 10% tier by one night, so compare the price of an eighth night with what you'd save.
