LoveReading began as a book recommendation website, with reviews and picks from a team of editors and expert readers, and in 2022 it added an online bookshop with a twist. When you buy a physical book, 25% of the cover price goes to a school you choose, to spend on books for its library (15% for ebooks). Its sister site, LoveReading4Kids, does the same for children's books.

It suits regular readers who'd like their book buying to do some good, and parents and grandparents who want to help their local school. Books are sold at 10% off the RRP, so the donation doesn't cost you more than full price. Orders are fulfilled by the UK book wholesaler Gardners and sent by Royal Mail tracked post to UK addresses only.

What's worth a look

Here's a selection from the current Star Books and staff picks, with today's prices.

For long autumn evenings, The Witching Hour collects thirteen ghostly and supernatural short stories from writers including Bridget Collins, Natasha Pulley and Jess Kidd, and the paperback is £9.89. Non-fiction fans should look at Castles by the historian Dan Jones, a 468-page hardback covering castles across centuries and continents, which LoveReading has made one of its Star Books. Each book page has the LoveReading review, and many have an opening extract under Look Inside so you can try the first pages.

The site is also good for browsing: there are weekly staff picks, fiction and non-fiction books of the month, debuts of the month and themed reading guides, such as a current list of Halloween reads.
