One.World is an independent, family-run furniture and homeware shop that began in 1989, when Kathy and Sidney Bensohn moved from Cape Town to London and started importing handmade candles. Their sons run it now. The range covers sofas, chairs, tables, storage, mirrors, lighting, wall art, rugs and garden pieces, with plenty of oak, reclaimed wood, linen, stone and aged iron. It suits anyone furnishing a period home or a country-style kitchen, or who just wants a few characterful accessories.

You can shop online or in person. The flagship store on Parsons Green Lane in south-west London has room sets and a coffee shop, and the outlet store and warehouse in Chessington, Surrey, is where online orders can be collected.

What's worth a look

The Aldbury 3-Seater Striped Tailored Sofa is a newer version of one of the shop's established designs. It has a linen and cotton striped cover that comes off, and deep seat and back cushions. For something smaller, the Wintershall Crown Candle Holder Trio is a set of three aged iron pillar candle holders for £19.50. The sale armchair in our picks, the Butterworth Windsor Armchair, also carries a "Buy 6 & Save 15%" discount that's applied at checkout.

Bigger pieces like the Hardham Oak Dining Table and the Holmbury chair go by two-person courier. The courier rings or texts within 3 to 5 working days to book a slot, and delivery can take up to two weeks, so allow time if you're furnishing for a date. Product pages also say which store has the piece on display, which helps if you want to sit on a sofa before spending well over a thousand pounds. Retailers, interior designers and hospitality businesses can apply for a trade account with trade pricing.

How to save more

• Large and extra-large items cost £29 or £49 for two-person delivery. If you can collect from Chessington, that charge disappears, and you can look round the outlet while you're there.
• Sign up to the newsletter before buying a big piece, because 10% off a sofa is worth far more than 10% off a cushion.
• Check how each piece is assembled before you add the £39 assembly service. Product pages say whether an item arrives fully assembled, needs simple assembly or needs full assembly.

Delivery covers mainland UK only. Standard parcels cost £6.95 and take 2 to 3 working days, next-day delivery is £12.95, and most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery.
