Pentire is a non-alcoholic drinks brand from North Cornwall, started by Alistair Frost and named after the Pentire headland near Port Isaac. It distils plants that grow on that stretch of coast, such as rock samphire, sea rosemary and sea buckthorn, into spirits you mix like gin or an aperitif.

It suits anyone cutting back on alcohol who still wants a proper grown-up drink, from people doing a dry month to hosts who want something better than squash for non-drinking guests. Pentire says all its drinks are under 0.5% ABV, vegan and gluten free, and the Adrift and Seaward spirits have no added sugar.

The UK website sells direct and only delivers within the UK. Delivery is by DPD next day, and it's free on orders of £40 or more; below that it costs £4.95.

What's worth a look

If you only buy one bottle, Coastal Spritz is the easiest place to start: it's a bitter, orange-led aperitif that Pentire compares to Aperol or Campari, with its own mix of blood orange, sea rosemary and oakwood. Adrift is the herbal one and Seaward the citrusy one. The Bottles Bundle brings all three together for £75 instead of £84, which is the simplest way to compare them.

Pentire lists the calories per serve on its FAQ page: around 2kcal for a 50ml measure of Adrift or Seaward and 19kcal for Coastal Spritz, before you add a mixer. Opened bottles of Adrift and Seaward keep for up to 12 weeks, so one bottle goes a long way if you only have the odd drink. The packaging is recyclable and Pentire says it uses no plastic in deliveries.

The 200ml cans come ready mixed, so they suit picnics, the beach or a train journey. The mixed six-pack has two each of Coastal Spritz, Margarita and Paloma.
