Phones Direct is an online shop based near Fareham in Hampshire that sells refurbished smartphones, mostly Apple iPhones and Samsung Galaxy models, alongside a smaller range of brand new phones and accessories. It has been trading since 2012 under Webuyanyphone Limited, and it ships across the UK by DPD. Its customer service team can be reached by phone on 0333 344 2460 or by email, and the returns unit is at the same Hampshire business park.

It suits anyone who wants a recent phone without paying the full new price, parents buying a first smartphone for a teenager, and people who'd rather keep an older handset in use than buy new. Every phone is sold unlocked and SIM-free, so you can put in your existing SIM from any network. In the box you get the phone, a USB charging cable and a SIM tool.

What's worth a look

• Refurbished iPhone 13: currently from £190, depending on storage, colour and condition grade (prices can change).
• Refurbished iPhone 15: currently from £320, a good middle ground if you want USB-C charging.
• Refurbished iPhone 17 Pro: currently from £849.99 for those after one of the newest models.
• Refurbished Samsung Galaxy S23: currently from £185, with other Galaxy S models from the S21 to the S26 also listed.
• Accessories: tempered glass screen protectors at £7.99, cases from £9.99 and an Anker 30W USB-C charger at £19.99.

Refurbished phones are tested with Phonecheck software, data-wiped and graded by how they look. Lower grades cost less but may show light marks. Some listings are marked as refurbishment in progress and are dispatched within five working days, so it's worth reading the shop's condition guide before you choose.

Current offers

• Free delivery on orders over £100; smaller orders cost £4.99. In-stock phones ordered before 2pm on a weekday are dispatched the same day.
• Every device comes with 30 days of free insurance against theft, loss and damage (the insurer's terms apply) and a 12-month limited warranty.
• After you buy, Phones Direct emails you a code that gets you a better price when you sell your old phone to WeBuyAnyPhone.
• You can spread the cost with PayPal Pay in 3 or Klarna, subject to their checks.

How to save more

• Pick the grade that fits how you'll use the phone. If it's going straight into a case, a lower cosmetic grade can save money with no difference day to day.
• Sell your old phone using the code Phones Direct sends after your order, and put the money towards the new one.
• Add a screen protector or case in the same order to help you over the £100 free delivery threshold if you're buying a cheaper handset.
