Sentia Spirits makes alcohol-free botanical drinks for mixing, as an alternative to a gin and tonic or a rum and cola. It comes from GABA Labs, the company co-founded by neuropsychopharmacologist Professor David Nutt and David Orren, and launched in 2020. It suits people who've cut back on alcohol, designated drivers, and anyone who wants a grown-up drink with tonic or ginger beer that isn't just a soft drink.

The main range is three 0% ABV bottles. Each is 50cl and makes 20 servings of 25ml. Sentia sells them as botanical food supplements, so the labels carry guidance: no more than 100ml in 24 hours, not for under-18s or during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and anyone with a medical condition or on medication should check with a healthcare professional first.

What's worth a look

Each bottle has its own flavour. GABA Red is berry-led with a hint of cloves and is designed to go with tonic. GABA Gold is citrus and ginger, and GABA Black has roasted, liquorice and pepper notes that Sentia suggests mixing with cola or ginger beer. If you'd rather not mix anything, the Sentia Ease spritzes come in packs of six 250ml cans in raspberry and lime, lime and ginger, or mango and passionfruit. The shop also sells Sentia Cask and Sentia Cider, which are 0.5% ABV rather than 0%.

The site's mocktail recipes section has ideas for each bottle, such as an alcohol-free margarita and mojito made with Gold, a cosmopolitan made with Red and an espresso martini made with Black. Sentia's FAQ says the bottles have a strong botanical flavour and include natural sediment, and most people prefer them mixed rather than neat.

• Returns are only accepted on sealed, undamaged products within 14 days, so try one bottle before committing to a six-bottle bundle.

Sentia also delivers to much of Europe and the USA. Prices on the UK store are in pounds, and international orders may have to pay customs fees.
