About AEG
AEG was founded in Berlin in 1883 by Emil Rathenau as the Deutsche Edison-Gesellschaft, renamed Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft in 1888. It began with light bulbs, motors and power stations and became one of Germany's biggest electrical companies. In 1907 it hired the architect Peter Behrens as artistic consultant, giving it one of the first corporate identities, with products and advertising sharing a common design.
The original company was broken up in the 1990s and formally dissolved in 1996, but its household appliance business had already passed to Electrolux, which has owned the AEG brand since 2005. Today Electrolux uses the AEG name for household appliances, including ovens, hobs, laundry and dishwashers, and also licenses it to other brand partners.
The AEG UK website lets you buy the range direct rather than through a retailer, which makes it a handy place to compare the current UK models side by side.
