About HSS DIY
HSS began in 1957 as The Hire Service Shop, a single shop on Baron's Court Road in Kensington, London, set up by Bert Taylor. It now trades online as HSS DIY through HSS ProService Ltd, which is based at Trafford Park in Manchester, and says it has more than 20,000 products to hire or buy.
The hire side covers kit that most people would rather not own: concrete mixers, breakers, floor sanders, wallpaper strippers, diggers, dumpers, access towers, scissor lifts, dehumidifiers, generators and skips. The buy side sells timber, cement and aggregates, fencing and paving, self-assembly kitchens, bathroom fittings, power tools, fixings, safety gear and workwear. You can put hire items and materials in the same basket and check out once, although items may arrive separately.
Orders can be delivered or picked up from a branch, and the site advertises one-hour click and collect and free same-day delivery on some items. Prices are shown including VAT, with the ex-VAT figure underneath, which is handy for trade buyers. The about page makes clear you don't need to be a tradesperson to hire, and a live chat team on weekdays can help you choose the right size or type of machine. Business customers can also apply for a credit account through the HSS ProService Marketplace.

How to use an HSS DIY voucher code
- Tap Get code on the offer you want. We copy the code for you and open HSS DIY in a new tab.
- Check the offer's Terms first: some codes need a minimum spend, are for new customers only, or exclude sale items.
- Add what you want to your basket on hss.com.
- At checkout, choose delivery or click & collect. One-hour click and collect from HSS branches.
- Paste the code into the discount code or promo code box and apply it. Check the discount shows in your order total before you pay.
- Didn't work? Tap Didn't work? under the code so we can recheck it, and read why codes fail.
Ways to save at HSS DIY
- Check hire product pages for a red percentage-off badge: the petrol tip-up concrete mixer was showing 25% off its hire price.
- Add the hire tool and the materials for the same job to one basket so you only check out once.
- Use one-hour click and collect from a local branch if you have a suitable vehicle, rather than waiting for delivery.
- Look at the 'Our Top Deals' section on the homepage for reduced prices on items such as fence panels and stepladders.
- Ask the live chat team which size of machine you need before booking, so you don't hire something too big or too small.
