About Screwfix
Screwfix is a British retailer of tools and building supplies, aimed mainly at tradespeople. It started in Yeovil, Somerset, in 1979 as the Woodscrew Supply Company, selling screws by mail order from a one-page catalogue. The Screwfix Direct catalogue followed in 1992 and a website in 1999, the year Kingfisher plc, which also owns B&Q, bought the business. The first shop opened in Yeovil in 2005, and the head office is still in the town.
The range covers power and hand tools, screws and fixings, plumbing and heating, electrical and lighting, bathrooms and kitchens, workwear, building supplies and garden products. More than 70,000 products can be ordered, and about 10,000 are stocked in each shop.
Screwfix has around 940 shops across the UK. Online orders can be collected from a shop in as little as one minute when the item is in stock. Home delivery is next day, seven days a week, and free over £50. In some areas the app offers Sprint, a delivery service that can arrive in 20 minutes for £4.99. Unused items can be returned free within 30 days, and the Price Promise matches cheaper prices for the same product at qualifying UK retailers.
