Alibaba.com is the business-to-business marketplace that Jack Ma and a group of friends and students started from his flat in Hangzhou, China, in June 1999. It was the first business of what became Alibaba Group, which also owns AliExpress and Taobao. Rather than selling its own stock, the site links buyers with manufacturers, wholesalers and exporters, most of them in China, who list their products and quote their own prices.

The catalogue runs from clothing, shoes, jewellery and packaging to furniture, machinery, vehicle parts, electronic components and raw materials.
