It arranges specialist insurance for things that ordinary home contents policies tend to treat as an afterthought, starting with cameras and musical instruments. Photography cover protects camera bodies, lenses and lighting, and music cover protects instruments, DJ gear and studio kit, each up to £50,000. Policies cover theft and accidental damage at home or away, kit stolen from a locked car if it's kept out of sight, equipment lent to friends and family, and 30 days abroad, which can be extended to 365 days. Paid policies can add mechanical breakdown and replacement hire.
Cover is designed for students, enthusiasts, semi-professionals and full-time professionals. Quotes take about three minutes online, start from £4.08 a month with a 10% online discount applied, and can be paid monthly or annually. Collective also works with UK retailers, which offer 30 days' free cover with new kit.
