About Hotel El Prado
Hotel El Prado is a landmark hotel in the El Prado district of Barranquilla, the port city on Colombia's Caribbean coast. Building work began in 1927 and it opened in 1930 as the Hotel del Prado. It was declared a monument of Colombia's architectural and cultural heritage in 1982 and forms part of the national heritage under a 2004 resolution. The hotel describes itself as the first tourist hotel in Latin America, and it's known for its palm-ringed pool and long chequerboard-tiled corridors.
There are 206 rooms in three areas, Clásica, Ejecutiva and Cabaña, from standard king and double queen rooms up to suites and presidential suites. The Grand Suite Clásica, for example, has two bedrooms, a king bed, a lounge and dining area and 116 square metres of space. Guests can use a semi-Olympic pool, spa, gym, 24-hour business centre and parking, and there are several restaurants and bars, including La Pizzería del Prado and the Cayena bar. Large function rooms host conferences and weddings, the biggest seating 600 people theatre-style.
